Support » Plugin: NS Cloner - Site Copier » Cloning failed on subdomain mode

Hi. I have tried to clone my main site, but once the process is finished I just get 404’s for both the backend and frontend. There is no subdomain folder created in public_html as I expected, and in fact I can’t find the cloned site files anywhere..

Subdomain mode is definitely configured in wp-config. Is there anything else I should have done in preparation? For example, did I need to create wildcard subdomains / DNS as indicated here (www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-install-and-setup-wordpress-multisite-network/#requirements)

Should I have created the specific subdomain folder before cloning?

    Thanks!

I should add that the cloning does take around 10 minutes and I get the warning “It appears background processing may be getting blocked on the server…”

    Hi @jamieps

That sounds like maybe your network settings or DNS is not setup properly if you are getting 404’s after cloning a site. You definitely want wildcard subdomains setup to handle the creation of new subdomains on the fly.

What happens if you manually create a new site?

Thanks @neversettle – I’ve managed to sort it. It was definitely due to the network setup / lack of wildcard subdomains. My host incorrectly told me I should preemptively create a subdomain folder, which is obviously not needed for a multisite set up.

    Thanks.
