Hi, I am thinking that this is NOT like a standard staging area offered with different hosting pkg. Correct? For example, I cannot update plugins for cloned/sub site, even if not network activated, and work with new updated plugins without it updating said plugins thus affecting main site, or any other site using those plugins also?

Thank you! I would love to do total plugin update and proofing prior to pushing main site live but thinking this will not work… sigh.

Happy to get pro if this can happen with it…

That’s correct 🙂 if you are cloning within a multisite and update any plugins that are Network Activated, this will affect all other sites on your network. The only way around that is to NOT Network Activate plugins and only activate on the site level. This is not a Cloner limitation but rather default WP MS functionality.

HI and thank you for your reply, sorry I never got an email indicating an answer. I know you have much to do and for further clarification… I do not have said plugins network activated but they are activated within site that I am cloning. So bottom line is that any site using the plugins will be updated along with the cloned site, correct? If true, then is a bummer, for me :)! Thank you for your time, it is very much appreciated…

If you have plugins activated at the site level, you can update those at the site level.
