• Hi,

    I run a WP site, let’s call it http://www.site.com
It is hosted on a server where I have 2 databases, 1 being currently used for the site, the other is available. The whole WP is installed in the root directory.

I would like to clone the site to http://www.site.com/EN where I translate the website content into another language.

I tried running the WP install into the EN folder, using the 2nd database info on the wp-config. I would have imported a copy of the 1st database into it afterwards. Installation just didn’t work.
I tried cloning the site with the WP duplicator content and didn’t succeed either.
    I
obviously would rather use a cloned website to start my translations than redo the whole site!

My question: is there an easy way to do that? Should I try to copy into the EN folder again but this time staying within the original database and just changing the tables index?
I feel like activating Multisites is going to be more complicated and won’t allow me to use a translation of my template (on top of translated content) in the sub-domain, am I right?

I’ve gone through multiple tutorials but nothing work and I don’t know if I’m just thinking things wrong from the start.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Not sure about the route you’ve taken, but thought I’d ask: have you checked out the Multilingual WordPress overview of options?

I wanted to avoid spending money on WPML but it might be the easiest, yes.

However, for the sake of knowing in case I need to do that again, I’d really like to learn how what I wanted to do can be done!
