Clicking on calendar doesn’t keep month active

Im using the eo_calendar shortcode to display the small calendar widget which allows the user to navigate to a specific date. When the user navigates the calendar months, a query parameter controls the current month on the widget like ?eo_month=2017-03. When this query is present the calendar keeps the selected month visible, although if the user clicks on a day, it goes to a page where the URL structure looks like /calendar/on/2017/03/16/ and the widget goes back to the current month, instead of the month currently being displayed in the URL.

Any way to get around this?
