Support » Plugin: WPtouch » Clean but no controls

  • It’s a nice look, but it strips sidebar out. Adds a footer – but I have no idea where it got it from our WP theme. Offers no controls at all. Probably because there’s a paid version. Their own WP site is a mess – can’t click on resources at bottom, and can’t even sign up! ??? Will probably turn it off, remove it. Too bad. Looks nice.

  • Hi, thanks for the review. We’ll respond below to your points.

It’s a nice look, but it strips sidebar out.

WPtouch has always done away with the WordPress sidebar. Mobile is all about the main content, not meta-data and secondary content. We’ve never supported sidebars and have no plans too. Long pages that scroll forever don’t make for a compelling mobile website in our experience (we’ve been working in mobile and with WPtouch since 2008).

Adds a footer – but I have no idea where it got it from our WP theme.

The footer is customizable in the theme settings of the WPtouch admin panel. We don’t take things from desktop themes, we take content directly from WordPress and re-display it in our mobile-optimized themes.

Offers no controls at all. Probably because there’s a paid version.

That’s just not accurate. WPtouch contains dozens of controls and customizable aspects for its theme— and the Pro version just adds many more (and additional themes and extensions). The free version is not a watered down version of Pro— it’s still a powerful mobile tool in its own right.

Their own WP site is a mess – can’t click on resources at bottom, and can’t even sign up!

Not sure where you went— wptouch.com is our website. If it didn’t look or work right for you, you might be using an older or outdated web browser.
