Yoast SEO 16.1.1 has some conflict with Classic Editor 1.6 and WordPress 5.7. New categories and tags do not mark as being used while in the editor. After de-activating Yoast, things are normal again. Re-activating Yoast brings back the issue.

    Hello Peter,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. But something is not clear. You said, ‘New categories and tags do not mark as being used’. How do you mean? Can you please explain better?

Hi, I mean that when a new category has been created, it will be selected after the creation. That the deafult situation.

In the current situation the typed-in category seems to do nothing at the time of creation, it is not even in the list. Just after a reload of the post page (in the editor) the new cat appears in the list, but not selected.

After disabling Yoast, everything works as it should. The same happens with tags.

    Thanks for the explanation.

With Yoast SEO 16.1.1, WordPress 5.7 and Classic Editor 1.6, I am unable to reproduce this. Creating a new category, it shows up in the list and I am to select it.

Just to be sure, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. We recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check without affecting normal visitors to your site.

As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts.

If you do not feel comfortable to do this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.

Thanks for you reply, until now I can only ‘switch off’ the problem if I disable Yoast. I will just check of any cash issue, may keep the problem active.

    Kind Regards,

    Peter

    Hi,

Since we were unable to reproduce the issue with a default set-up, we recommend you perform a conflict check to rule out the possibility of a plugin or theme conflict — https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/

    (@peterluit)

Yes, but that has already ben done.

    Hi,

With a default WordPress theme (e.g. TwentyTwenty), WordPress 5.7.1, and only Yoast SEO for WordPress 16.1.1 and Classic Editor 1.6 as the only plugins enabled, are you able to reproduce the issue?

We ask as we were unable to reproduce it from our end. Could you please test this in the troubleshooting mode of the health check plugin to ensure that the issue can be reliably reproduced and with what set-up — https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/
