• Hello,

I have a question regarding the most recent update. The change log includes the below.

Fixed: Image size smaller than recommended size Warning in Search console #2838

Can you kindly explain what exacty does this fix? Does it automatically make the images 1200px wide?

Will deeply appreciate it if you can clarify.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

If the featured images are not 1200px wide, it will automatically take the 1200px and submit to the Google console. And we’ve just changed some code in the backend ( in the schema ) but in the frontend, user’s will see the original size of the images.

    Hope it helps.

@ampforwp Hello, thanks for your response.

Do you mean it will take the 1200px version and simply use that? If yes, what will happen if there is no 1200px option available? Will it create one on its own?

    Hi,

Yes, it will take 1200px wide image and it would use in the Google SERP. When you say “no 1200px option available” you mean what if the featured image is not set up? If yes, it will not create one on its own.

    Hope it helps.

@ampforwp Thanks for answering the first part of my question.

Regarding the 2nd part, what I meant was this: What if the featured image is not 1200px wide. What will the plugin do in this case?

    Hi @solid_snake,

If the featured image is not set to 1200px wide, the plugin will automatically upscale the image to 1200pc wide in the schema section but in front-end, it will show the original image only.

    Hope you understand.

    @ampforwp Thanks for your response.

So, basically, the image won’t actually be 1200px? You will just put the width as 1200px in scehma and that’s it. Am I right?

Also, what will happen if there is no featured image? For example, I have a website that fetches image from a custom field. What will happen in this case?

    Thanks a ton!

    Hi @solid_snake,

Yes and regarding the no featured image, It will take default image which you’ve set up from the ‘Default Post Image’ option in the Structure data section of the AMP panel setting. Screenshot: http://take.ms/dIZuf

But make sure that you’ve uploaded the 1200px wide image in the ‘Default Post image’

    Hope it helps.

@ampforwp Hello, thanks for the quick response.

I need a solution for my website which uses a different way to fetch image.

    1. I dont use featured image.
    2. I use images which are fetch through custom fields.
    3. I have modified the code of AMP plugin so that it picks up the image from custom field
    4. Currently it’s set to width 600 in the Structured Data option in the plugin.

So, will changing the width to 1200px in the structured data option solve the issue? (note that the images are not actually 1200px).

    Please help πŸ™‚

    Thanks for your time!

@jdembowski Yes, I never shared our site details with anyone. Thanks for the heads up though.

I just use their email for support. Is that alright?
