[Plugin: CKeditor] alternatives

I’m currently running a ‘commons in a box’ buddypress I’m using ckeditor to allow users a bit more control over wiki posts and forum posts with the main feature for me being that users are allowed to upload and insert images (inline) into their post.

My only problems are that
1. It’s a bit clunky.
2. It doesn’t show immediately, the visual tab always has to be clicked by the user.
3. Also, it seems to be putting the HTML tags into the forum posts.

So my question is, are there any alternatives (preferably free) that will allow users to upload and post inline images? Or, is there anyway to fix the problems posted above?
