CiviCRM/WordPress permissions (4 posts)

We are considering switching our contact management database (civiCRM) from Joomla to WordPress. However, from what I understand, WordPress only has 5 permissions levels (administrator, editor, authors, contributors, and subscribers) that mostly pertain to editing the website rather than editing the information in CiviCRM (or contact management database). Is this true? I thought it would be more like Joomla where we can customize the different types of permissions. For example, for volunteers we have created a "publisher" permission that lets them look up contacts within our database, but they cannot add a new contact or delete existing contacts.

Is there some way (plug-in perhaps?) to customize the different permissions levels that access the contact management database?

    Thank you for your help!

I think you can achieve this using a couple of plugins and the CiviCRM WordPress permissions extension.

  3. Looks like they have some integration: http://civicrm.org/blogs/lobo/civicrm-and-wordpress and http://sandbox.wordpress.civicrm.org/

There should be a way to do that, but apparently the GPL questions hamstrung it for a while.

There is a CiviCRM Make it Happen for this in 4.3:

also at the recent Europe sprints, we've recd and added to core a fair bit of support for this. would be great if you can help with the make it happen so we can continue work on improving / documenting and getting the integration ready for v4.3
