I’m sorry — I know this topic has been discussed — 8 YEARS AGO — but I still can’t find any viable information for a non-programmer to fix the problem. My chosen theme (YUI-Mainstream) keeps randomly changing to the default theme (WordPress Default), which for my site is illegible. It puts my yellow type on a white background, and has text overlapping photos. I don’t want to pick a different theme, and I can’t program YUI-Mainstream to be the default.

The problem occurs anywhere from every few hours to about once a day. Does anyone know an easy fix to this problem, or when a new version of WordPress will be available for download? Thank you.

That’s not WordPress that’s doing that and changing the colors isn’t changing to the default themes. I’ve just looked and your theme is not a WordPress default one such as Twenty Fourteen.

Have you tried contacting the author of that theme to ask what’s going on?

Actually, Jan, that WAS WordPress doing it. It was the same problem a different version of WordPress was having about 7 years ago. The forum entries are still there. This year, the VERY DAY that WordPress changed versions (several months ago), the problem started. My theme was reverting to the WordPress default theme (which did not support my color scheme), every few hours, every day. When you looked at my site, it was after I changed it BACK from the default to the YUI-Mainstream theme. And guess what? The VERY DAY that WordPress upgraded to a new version this week, THE PROBLEM STOPPED. My site has not reverted back to the default theme SINCE they upgraded.

But thank you very much. I appreciate you taking the time to offer assistance.

I’m thrilled that your problem has gone away but… the WordPress code won’t do that. Upgrades to WordPress won’t change options saved in the database.

Now upgrading a theme may do that especially if you have modified your theme and then upgrade it. That will happen and is why child theme’s are used.

But unless there is something goofy going on with your theme (and that does happen) then WordPress cannot do that. Those theme files just aren’t part of the WordPress distribution.

Well, it’s happening again… REGARDLESS OF WHICH THEME I CHOOSE, WordPress keeps changing my theme to “WordPress Default Theme,” which looks horrible, because it places text overlaid right on my top photo (obscuring the text AND obscuring the photo), and it makes the body black text on white background instead of yellow text on blue background, which is what I’ve had for 7 years.

Doesn’t ANYONE know how to stop this reversion from occurring? It’s NOT a problem with the theme I’m choosing, because it happens no matter which theme I choose.

P.S. I just re-downloaded the latest WP version 3.9.2, and re-selected the theme I want: YUI-Mainstream, on 8/13/14, at 11:30am Pacific Time, so if you look at it right now, the background is blue, the text is yellow, and this is the way it should be… but any time now, WordPress will revert it back to the theme I can’t stand.
