Choosing what to display in the index page

    Hi,

    I’m quite new to word press. I am a graphic designer and currently converting my portfolio site to wordpress blog system.

    My question is that is there anyway to control what to display in the index page? I have 3 sections in my site (news, work, press) and I want to display one latest entry from each section in the index page. Is it possible at all? Any suggestions or thoughts wuld be highly appreciated! Thanks bunch in advance.
