Choose the word count limit of the content

I need to create a single recent post column for my home page. I don’t manually create excerpts of my blog post so the excerpt widget from elementor did not work at all. I was going to use the content widget in my custom loop layout but using the content widget gives me the full blog post which is far too long. How can I limit how many words to use? Thanks
