i've tried about 12 different combos of plugins and function filtering and i'd love some help or direction.

    site is http://thebabyditty.net

i'm trying to get a registration form that does the following:

    A) pops up cleanly and neatly (i've been trying this with simplemodal-login and it almost does the trick but i can't figure out B and C (below))

    B) allows users to set their own password (i've found several plugins that do that as well, but then i'm having to switch to easy fancybox and the standard wp registration page which isn't nearly as nice looking as simplemodal)

    C) automatically logs a new subscriber into the site. i want the minimum amount of hassle to my readers in order for me to get their email and them to get on surfing my site.

It seems that using the Pie Register plugin for allowing users to set their own passwords does the trick in Simplemodal-register. The user will still have to login as a separate step but it's at least fairly smooth. They get redirected to a Simplemodal-login immediately and you can change the text for the login page in your wp_login.php file to say something like. 'Please login in below' instead of go check your email.
