Support » Fixing WordPress » Choice in which page to put post

I am building a website using WordPress and would like
to be able to choose the page in which to put each post.
The first page is default for posts, but I would like
to put them on a page called ‘blog’ instead.

I would like a menu on the “add new” post where I can
choose the page I want for each new post.

Thanks, I was just about to post here that I found it! 🙂

However the sidebar disappears from my “home” page and appears on
the “Blog” page….it clearly says on the top of the linked page that this should not happen!

Depends on how you theme your home page, really. You can customize a front-page.php template in your theme to look how you want.

Of course you can customize it, but this is what the page you linked
    to says:
‘Creating a virtual static front page does not require editing or coding of files or templates. Using the default configuration for a “static front page” in WordPress does not remove the sidebar or change the look of the entire site, just the content area.’

So I should not have to customize anything!

That really depends on your THEME. If your theme is set up that the static front page looks like that (and yes, someo f them are), then you have to customize.

In that case I will have some difficulties….are you
sure about this, it doesn’t seem to be logical.

I use the Twenty Eleven theme by the way.

    Quite sure 🙂

For example, I know for a FACT that Twenty Eleven pages don’t have sidebars on them. Now that you’re using a static PAGE for your site, no sidebar 🙂 Theme issue.

OK thanks, that answers my question!
But it doesn’t solve my problem….
I really want a static first page WITH the sidebar function!

Create a custom child theme and add a custom page template that includes a sidebar.

Thanks, probably I will go there in the end.
I once was a programmer, but that was 25 years ago! 😉

I also posted a query in the TwentyEleven forum, maybe someone already did this!?

OK my question was removed as a duplicate….and I figured I had
rephrased my question and put it in the right place, the Twenty Eleven forum!
As it is related to the theme and not WP itself.

@ipstenu, thanks I am looking at it right now and it
seems to do the trick, just need to understand a lot
more to be able to fix it…..

I still think WP should fix the 20-11 theme to keep
the sidebar on the static front page!!!
I can’t see that anyone would really want it this way….

The official answer there is ‘If you don’t like 2011, don’t use it.’ 🙂 There’s nothing wrong with not liking a theme, or having it not fulfill all your needs.

    klasg

    (@klasg)

Yes that’s the easy answer! 😉
However I still think it should be fixed in 20-11. 🙂
