  • I think it supports 3 dialects – China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. zh_CN, zh_TW and zh_HK.

    Hi Richard,

Thank you so much for your reply. I don’t have as much knowledge on Chinese language. But when I add the language in wordpress admin then it show zh_CN. My client want Mandarin, but I am not sure if this is a good plugin to use, as I don’t understand Chinese characters.

    Thanks again

    Anjan,

Mandarin is a spoken dialect. For sites, you should ask your client whether they want simplified or traditional Chinese characters. If they want simplified Chinese, then you should use zh_CN. For traditional, can use either zh_TW or zh_HK.

    Hope that helps…

These 3 dialects are in the predefined list but you could create any language not in the predefined list.
WordPress itself has translations projects available for these 3 dialects, but zh_HK seems to be at 0%: http://wpcentral.io/internationalization/
The Polylang admin is translated in both zh_CN (simplified) and zh_TW (traditional)

I want to use it for English and Mandarin as front-end.

I am fine to have the backend in English.

    Thanks.
