Chinese and pinyin from database not displaying | WordPress.org

Learn Chinese

The above page shows this problem best. The chinese and pinyin on the left is written into a post. On the right under the vocabulary heading, all of the words including the english are coming off a database. The site is UTF-8 encoded and so is the database. I had this working on a local wamp server but once i put it all online it stopped working. I can’t think of anything that’s different. Is there anything I could be missing?

Solved.

I found the solution on this page. In case the link goes dead, what I did was to add the line

mysql_query(“SET NAMES ‘utf8′”, $link);

in the function I wrote to retrieve the table from the database. The php function utf8_encode($string) was actually reversing the Chinese to unreadable type. Contact me through my site if you want more information.
