  • I have been trying to create a child theme for sliding doors. The style sheet and footer are fine, but the customization for the menu in the functions.php file, I wanted to save in the child theme, but everything that I have tried ended up with displaying a blank page instead of the website.

    I tried to copy the whole thing into the child theme, and also saving the new functions.php with the child theme info at the top with only the function that was changed under it, and nothing that I am doing seems to work. I just don’t want my changes for the images and links overwritten if there is an update.

  • What exactly are you trying to do in some more detail please. If your simply trying to make sure your pics are saved and links wont change when you update the theme. Let me reassure you this will not be changed when you update any way.

    How ever if you are making changes that are more technical like changing the sizes of the pictures in the sliders then your still in the same boat.

    If like i suspect your redirecting one of the sliders to a external site or a none Word Press portion of your own site. Then to save these changes use the Page Links To Plugin this is actually recommended by the themes creator Wayne. If you use this you can set up your sliders like you normally would and then your external or internal links with the plugin and you wont loose them during an update.

    Finally refer to this link for instructions on setting up a child theme for sliding-door

    Hi, I’m hoping you can help me with a similar issue. I’ve been trying to create the child theme and believe the files are correct. However, each time I activate the theme, I get a white screen with error messages and have to remove it via ftp and reactivate the parent.

    The site is dev.asuitesite.com

    Error messages are:

    Warning: require_once(/home/content/35/9676635/html/aSUITEsite/wp-content/themes/sliding-door-child/class-tgm-plugin-activation.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/35/9676635/html/aSUITEsite/wp-content/themes/sliding-door-child/functions.php on line 51

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/content/35/9676635/html/aSUITEsite/wp-content/themes/sliding-door-child/class-tgm-plugin-activation.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5_3/lib/php’) in /home/content/35/9676635/html/aSUITEsite/wp-content/themes/sliding-door-child/functions.php on line 51

    Any help would be very much appreciated.
