This is my first time with 2017 theme, and I haven’t done much site work for a while. When I create a child theme for this site (gpgardner.com) I get a white bar at the top of the page on auxiliary pages and the photo header image is cut off. Everything looks fine on TwentySeventeen, it is just with the child that I am having problems. I have viewed with several browsers. Wish I could figure it out but I can’t. Please help.

  • Hello vtolbert,

Please consider the below url for the child theme –

I hope the above was helpful.

    Kind regards,

Thanks Manoj, I believe that is what I have done. I have followed several sets of instructions including this one: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes which suggests enqueuing rather than @import.
Having cleared my head overnight I was able to follow it better and the white space at the top of the page is now gone. The header is still cut off on the auxiliary pages, and I don’t know why that is happening. Thanks again!

When I activate the twentyseventeen theme the masthead area with the photo, site name, and tag line measure 55 pixels. When I switch to the child theme it measures 22 pixels and the tag line doesn’t show. I compared the CSS (including the navigation) between the child theme and the twentyseventeen theme and find no difference. What could be causing this problem?

Looks like you figured it out
I’m curious what was the culprit?

    regards

I wish I knew. I am not good enough at php to troubleshoot it.

Oh, sorry, I posted what I had done but it doesn’t show here. I ended up using the Child Theme Configurator plugin. The resulting functions file looks nothing like the instructions from the Codex from what I can tell. It works, and that is the important part for me.
