    You’ll need to post a link to the site for help with this.

    Sorry, I don’t have a link to the site because I’m working on it offline.
    The theme is activated and I am able to edit template files that I put into that folder but any changes I make to the style sheet have no effect.
    I’m using the following line to import the parent theme’s style sheet:
    @import url('../simplo/style.css');

    Then you probably either have a CSS syntax error, your selectors are not specific enough, or it’s not set up correctly.

    What else is in the header of the style.css file?

    /*
    Theme Name: Simplo Child
    Theme URI: http://www.s5themes.com/theme/simplo/
    Description: Child theme for Simplo theme
    Template: simplo
    Version: 1.0
    */
    @import url('../simplo/style.css');

    This is wrong –

    @import url('http://meratolreport.com/wp-content/themes/simplo/style.css');

    That’s not what you have above – which IS correct.

    oh sorry, yeah, I was just using the absolute path to the parent theme’s style sheet to see if that worked but it didn’t.

    /*
    Theme Name: Simplo Child
    Theme URI: http://www.s5themes.com/theme/simplo/
    Description: Child theme for Simplo theme
    Template: simplo
    Version: 1.0
    */
    @import url('../simplo/style.css');

    Try adding this below that line – just to see if it’s working – some themes won’t work with a child theme so that’s possible too:

    body {
        color: red !important;
    }

    Thanks, tried that and still nothing. I didn’t know that some themes won’t work with a child theme. I’m guessing that the Simplo theme must be one of those themes. I just wish I knew that before instead of wasting 2 hours!
    I followed exactly the same process with another theme and was able to create a working child theme without a problem.
    As I am planning to make only a few minor changes to the theme, I will forget about the child theme and just go in and edit the files in the main theme directory.

    Yeah, that’s so annoying. For CSS changes you can easily use a CSS plugin like Custom CSS Manager – it works great.

    Ok, thanks. I appreciate your help.
