Support » Theme: Twenty Thirteen » Child theme causes media library to break

  • I’m a complete novice in all things coding– PHP, CSS, etc. But I wanted to make some tweaks to my site, so I decided to try making a child theme based on Twenty Thirteen using code that others have posted online. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed a couple problems when the child theme is activated:
    1. The media library won’t load at all, so I can’t use the ‘insert media’ tool when editing a post.
    2. When I save a draft or publish a post, I get sent to /wp-admin/post.php which displays a blank page, rather than showing a confirmation within the editing view.

    My site is, and in case it helps, my code for the child theme is below. It’s only two short files.

     Theme Name:   Twenty Thirteen Child
     Description:  Twenty Thirteen Child Theme
     Author:       apgoldst
     Template:     twentythirteen
    sup, sub {
       vertical-align: baseline;
       position: relative;
       top: -0.4em;
    sub { top: 0.4em; }

    add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'theme_enqueue_styles' );
    function theme_enqueue_styles() {
        wp_enqueue_style( 'parent-style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css' );
    function my_mce_buttons_2($buttons) {
    	 * Add in a core button that's disabled by default
    	$buttons[] = 'superscript';
    	$buttons[] = 'subscript';
    	return $buttons;
    add_filter('mce_buttons_2', 'my_mce_buttons_2');
