Support » Fixing WordPress » Child Theme baked into WordPress

  • Hi guys,

I’m pretty sure this will have been covered by sdomeone else but I couldn’t find anything using the frustrating search bar so here goes.

Could Child Themes be created natively in WordPress so that they attach themselves to whichever theme is being activated?

This could happen in one of two ways:

    1. There is a universal Child Theme that is created when WordPress is installed and when you install a new theme, WordPress asks if you want to attach the Child Theme to the newly installed theme.

    2. WordPress asks if you want to create a child theme whenever a new theme is installed.

Since Child Themes are generally held to be a good idea I think it’d be good to have this option for people who are less tech savvy and don’t want to go through the rigmarole of setting up a child theme. I know there are one click child theme installers and some themes even come with Child Theme generators baked in but it seems to me like it should be handled by the core system so it can be maintained and kept up to date with the best practices.

    Whaddayasay!?
