 * I have done everything repeatedly step by step…to install a child theme
    I activated
   it…it picks up the parent styles… but I cannot program any of my own? nothing
   works…

 * what is the full code of style.css of the child theme?
 * if you are using:
    `@import url("../parenttheme/style.css");` does the line end
   with a semicolon?
