# Chil Theme

 * Hi,
 * New to WordPress. I have made a website (www.jconi.be). The “problem” is that
   all that has been made so far is changed in the parent theme (Nirvana) I have
   red that when updating the parent theme changes will be lost. The solution is
   creating a child theme. So i did using [http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes](http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes).
   I habe made a new map + style.css. Now i am wondering what files because there
   are many in the main theme should i copy to the child theme map. Because if i
   activate the child theme almost nothing is the same anymore. So i want my website
   to look identical again when using the child theme so in the future changes to
   the man theme wont affect the chil theme.

 * WordPress considers a child theme to be a separate theme from the parent theme,
   so you’ll likely need to assign any custom menus and widgets the same way you
   did when you set up the parent theme. If your parent theme has a separate options
   panel or anything like that, you’ll likely need to re-do those options as well.
   Other than that, you won’t need to copy any files over from the parent theme 
   unless you’d like to change them in your child theme. Besides the things I mentioned,
   is there anything else about your site that doesn’t look correct?
