Checkout page white screen of death (blank page)

I noticed that when I set the checkout page in the settings, it comes up blank. After getting nowhere for some time, and not getting any errors with wp_debug, I played around with things and found that when I created a cart page, then I was able to see the checkout page, and it redirected to the cart page. Error codes would be useful for this situation, to save people a lot of trouble.
