Checking 'Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders' breaks site

  • I am experiencing a weird problem with my uploads.

If I check ‘Organize my uploads into month and year-based folders’ the image paths all change to the development paths (ie. http://localhost/development-folder/photographs/…) resulting in broken images throughout the site – however when I uncheck this box the image paths seem to be fine (ie. http://domain.com/photographs/…). What could be causing this?

I have also found that I can’t upload images when this box (‘Organize my uploads into month and year-based folders’) is checked (I get an error ‘Unable to create directory photographs/2013/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?) however I don’t get this error if the ‘month/year folder’ box is unchecked?? I would guess the two problems are related?

Weird and annoying as I need to have images organised into year/month folders as there will be hundreds of photos on the site.

    Site is http://www.prophotographer.org.uk
