    I am currently in the process of migrating my site from wordpress.com to a self-hosted wordpress site. This is my first time building self-hosted site and I am still in the initial stages.

    On my wordpress.com site I was using the Chateau theme. This is not available through WordPress.org, so I purchased it from the designer’s site.

    The way the theme functions seems to be slightly different for wordpress.org. On wordpress.com there is an option which allows you to make your site full width with no sidebar. This is how I would like my site to appear, but I do not see such an option available in the self-hosted version.

    What would I need to do to remove the sidebar and make the site full-width?

    At the bottom left corner of the page there appears in large font : About* . What is this? Is there a way to remove it?

    I am also wondering what I need to do to hide tags, and to hide the “powered by wordpress” message at the bottom of the site.

    The Chateau theme contains an option for “additional CSS.”

    I found a recommendation for removing tags, but it was for custom css on wordpress.com:

    .post-extras {
    display: none;
    }

    I entered this into the “additional CSS” box for Chateau but it had no effect. I also foundcode for removing the “powered by wordpress” at the bottom of the site. I entered that into “additional CSS” too but it also had no effect. Then I tried to try the same with a third party CSS plugin, but the result was the same.

    I believe these suggested were aimed at wordpress.com users, so I’m hoping someone may know what needs to be done for wordpress.org.

    Thanks for your help
