Support » Fixing WordPress » Changing web site title and search engines

  • I am planning to change the title of my web site to more accurately reflect the content of the site. Given that search engine algorithms analyse site content mostly, will changing the title have any effect on these parameters? The current title uses words which are apt but generally don’t have much pull, but the new wording will have more universal appeal.
    And finally, will keeping the URL the same (it uses the same wording as the original title) have any impact on the search engines, or is changing advantageous? [I’m reluctant to change the URL as it is an established base}
    Thanks in advance.

  • Search engines will eventually reflect your changes to the content, but if the URL is the same it won’t have any negative effects.

    Changing the URL does have the potential to lower your ranking, but it’s easy to correct by pointing the old URL to the new with 301 redirects. Google understands that sites change URLs all the time and won’t penalize you if you do it correctly.

    OK thanks for this
