I’m building a site and as I’ve worked on it there have been 3 Users, all now listed as Administrator.

When I try to change the role of one of the Administrators, I get the message “You can’t edit that User”.

Can anyone please advise if this can be done or what do I need to do to make the change?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Thanks Esmi, I have no plugins installed at all

The Theme I’m using is 2010 and I thought it would be possible to change the roles within that.

What version of WordPress are you running? The current default theme is Twenty Twelve. Were you the initial admin user?

Hello Esmi, when you asked if I was the intial user, it made me remember I had built the site with a different name and then, eventually added my own.

I’ve now transferred ownership and everything works well, including being able to change the role of users.

Many thanks for all your help, it is much appreciated.

    Glad I could help 🙂
