# Changing URL-Confirmation

 * Hi, I’ve searched & think I know what to do, but before I destroy everything…..
 * My blog is currently on a freehost subdomain of xxx.awardspace.com
 * I’ve just bought a TLD .co.uk address & have transferred the nameservers to awardspace.
   Apparently, I can just rename my xxx.awardspace.com directory on the server to
   the .co.uk domain and it should work fine.
 * As I understand it, prior to this I should just go to the WP config page & change
   the blog URL & WP URL to the new one, log out, rename the server directory, log
   back in & update the permalink structure & that should be it?
 * Have I understood this correctly, or have I missed something? (I will of course
   backup before starting…)

 * Normally, the method you’ve described applies only to a “move” when the old and
   new location is _physically_ on the same machine.
    I’d ask the host whether this
   renaming the “free…whatever” to “my-new-domain” would work – regardless of WP
   or other webtool.
 * If they say yes, then proceed.

 * The info came from an Awardspace admin mod – he said as long as they’re on the
   same account (which they are) it should work.
 * I guess the advantage is, if it doesn’t work, I can just reset the folder on 
   the server and try again. (with optimism like that, you wouldn’t believe I’ve
   been using PC’s for 15 years would you?)
 * But, if there’s nothing else required WordPress-wise I’ll give it a go.
