  • I tried to change the URL and now I am getting the error message, “404 Not Found”.
Then I tried going back to the previous URL and I am getting the same message.
I’m assuming the URL just got deleted…

Please help me bring the site back!

I looked over your instructions to Changing The URL, and I’m kind’ve unsure if this is what I really want. I am replacing an existing website with my new WP site. But I want the same URL used. My host is Blue Host and they require that the home page be titled “index” and be placed in the public-HTML folder. So can i just dump the old site, change my new WP URL ( to with your instructions via myPHPAdmin and it will work? Thank you for your help!

Right now, your blog is installed in a sub-directory named “WP”

If you want to move it to the root of your site (// you can either reinstall, removing all of the existing files -or just renaming index.html, if you wish, but I find that sometimes messy- and place all of the WordPress files in the root of your site.

Read this information first. It may shed some helpful light on what you need to do to get WordPress installed/moved to the root of your domain, and what the best procedure might be for your situation.

    Good luck to you.

Thanx Clayton James!!!!! It worked easily! Thank you! thank you!

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks 😉

Are you trying to put a different site in your root and have a blog attached, or do you just want to change the directory where WordPress is located?

that’ll move the files to the subdirectory you create, while letting people access it from

you create a subdomain called either rugbynews or rugbyblog and follow

which will allow people to access by going to or
