changing themes from file manager
i downloaded a free wordpress theme but at footer it has ads and i tried to remove them but now i could not get into Admin area, site don’t open, i got this message “This theme is released under creative commons licence, all links in the footer should remain intact”
even when i uploaded the same old code in the footer.php.original
how to uninstall this theme from file manager and use other themes without losing my website files? i can’t do it from the wordpress admin, i got this message every time i want to go to Admin”This theme is released under creative commons licence, all links in the footer should remain intact”
please help on either remove this file or how to use other theme in the mean time.
i really like this theme “Free WordPress Theme-At Law Theme”
the only thing is the footer has ads in
now my site is closed, using free hosting without support so i need ur help
Try switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
in the file manager go to:
wp-content->themes-> your theme
If you delete the folder for the broken theme, your site will revert to 2011
And I would recommend you not use any themes from the site you downloaded that one from. Only shady theme shops allow that practice.
esmi and Rev.voodoo, thank you for your reply, i started with changing the name of the current theme file into default”-old”
and still not working
i have access to file manager and i followed ur instructions but still i can’t open admin area or the site.
Re-upload a fresh copy of Twenty Eleven to your wp-content/themes folder using FTP:
I re-uploaded twentyeleven theme and deleted the broken one but still not working, the question is “after uploading the new theme what else i have to do to copy those files into it? i already have a mysqlbackup
please if you can give me more information on this or if there is an article on how to do it i appreciate it.
i am not an expert with ftp files, i only know how to work from wordpress admin but its closed
Are you sure that you deleted the correct “broken” theme? What version of WordPress are you running?
how can i restart the whole thing? i have a backup of my files but i guess i have to save them and delete all themes, is it possible or i am going to lose them?
Delete all folders in wp-content/themes except the twentyeleven folder.
Esmi, thank you again, I have done all this with the help of my free host, i have twentyeleven activated and i lost all files. i was told to delete the broken law theme and all wp files, we uploaded new wp and i had a mysql backup, i tried to upload mysql file from my desk top but i got this message “#1007 – Can’t create database ‘stehor6_ei’; database exists “
i was just told by my free host that they don’t keep or backup files but i know i did make a backup and they told my delete them and upload the one i downloaded to my desktop but i got the #1007 message above.
what else i can do?
i was told to delete the broken law theme and all wp files
No – it was suggested that you delete all folders in wp-content/themes except the twentyeleven folder. Nobody said anything about deleting all WordPress files.
i tried to upload mysql file from my desk to
Why? As far as we know, there is nothing wrong with your database.
i was advised by my stupid free host customer service people!
now its too late they will not help so i am changing this host to another one and i hope i can build this site again.
thank you for trying to help
its not worth it to chose a free hosting for someone has no knowledge of ftp and database, i have my other sites with a good host where they usually help.
