Changing the theme using a config file or something (5 posts)

    Hi there

I installed typebased theme, which worked fine. However, then I changed a few themes to see which one looked better. I changed back to typebased and ever since I can't see anything on my website or the admin panel. The page just shows up blank. I noticed something was wrong when I clicked on preview and nothing showed up. But being the curious guy I am, I clicked on "Activate" anyway. Now nothing shows up at all.

I'm guessing if I could use my sftp connection to change the settings in some config file and get my old settings back.

Can someone help me figure this out? If you'd like to take a look at the page the way it is (blank), go to kushalsharma.com.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Try:
    - switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme's folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    Thanks Esmi

I tried both these things, but they don't seem to work.

Here's something else that could help you figure out:

Once I tried this with some other theme and it gave a similar blank page. Only I had used "open in a new tab" option to activate that theme. Therefore, the original page still had other themes visible and as soon as I clicked on one of those links and activated another theme, things turned back to normal.

Now, I tried using the following URL to see if I could directly activate the default theme, but that doesn't work either:

    http://kushalsharma.com/wp-admin/themes.php?action=activate&template=twentyten&stylesheet=twentyten&_wpnonce=33368d226c

I found this URL from a local install of WP (replaced localhost.. by my own domain) I have on my computer. But that doesn't work either.

Okay, here's another weird problem. I renamed all the theme folders except the default one, and the admin panel worked (the site still showed a blank page). Then I went back and saw that the themes appeared right despite the renamed folders. It said "All of this theme’s files are located in /themes/basedtype".

This is actually the "Typebased" theme I'm using. And it works on the website properly now.

However, the moment I rename the folder back to "typebased" from "basedtype", the site breaks again.

    Why is this happening?

Could be a bad db record, I suppose...
