Changing the Site location (4 posts)

    1. I copied the WP index.php into the root directory (example.com). 2. I renamed the index.html file that was in the root so as not to interfere with the .php presence. 3. I redefined my SITE URL from http://example.com/wordpress to http://example.com. 4. I tested the site and it did not work. I got a "Site not found" error when I tried to access it. 5. Then I renamed the .htaccess file in the root and moved the one from the WP site directory. 6. This also did not work.
I have put everything back like it was and everything works fine now but I'd still like to publish my wordpress site on to http://example.com and not the current site path of http://example.com/wordpress. How do I accomplish this?
I have Permalinks in the Settings menu of WP but I don't know what to change in it (if anything).

There is detailed information in Moving WordPress from the Codex.

What I am trying to do is not there. I only want to change where my site is published. By reading all the WP tutorials I gather I only need to change the site URL in the settings menu of WP and then update the wp-config.php. There is nothing to edit in the wp-config.php file because it is empty. I guess I'll contact word press and see if they can recommend a contractor that I can hire to accomplish this or maybe I'll try a different software. It just seems that publishing a web site to a specific location is probably a common task and the process should not be so convoluted. Thanks for your help.
