    Hello to you all!

I hope I have posted in the correct place. I’d like to know if it’s possible to create a breadcrumb for a post (or in my case a product) that only comes from one parent category and shows the child category.

The reason is because we have so many categories that it takes 2 to 3 lines for the breadcrumb and for me it just looks messy and bulky.

In our categories we have one that displays all products in specific types. The category parent is ‘Browse’. So if I looked at a cushion the breadcrumb I’d like to see, would be:

Home > Browse > Cushions > Product Title

That product will never be in any other child category so it would create a 4 step breadcrumb and not a 200 million breadcrumb (that’s how it feels anyway!).

Could anyone give me any advice as I can’t even find a snippet as an example to show what I am working with, I’m really struggling to search the right question for this answer, if it is even possible to do 🙂

    Thank you very, very much!

It’s possible all right. The question is is there a plugin that let’s you configure the breadcrumb trail to work that way? There are a number of breadcrumb plugins. I don’t know if any will do what you want.

If you cannot find a plugin that works, it may require custom coding to get such a breadcrumb trail. It’s not too complicated as there are only two variables: the child category and the product title. Custom code can know to only get a child category of “browse”. Existing plugins might not be able to be told this.

Thank you so much, I’m so glad it can be done!

That was the issue I was facing, no plugin or tutorial I found so far could accommodate this and normally I can find at least an article to walk through the steps.

Sorry, we don’t allow off forum contacts here. It can end badly in some rare cases. Bad people is why we cannot have nice things 🙁

If you don’t already know of a developer, a couple resources are https://jobs.wordpress.net/ or https://jetpack.pro/. Or, if you are near a sizable urban center, local WP meetups can be a place to meet WP developers IRL.

I totally understand! Those naughty bad people 🙁

But thank you again and I am marking as resolved, as you answered what I needed to know perfectly. Once I have the feature coded I will be happy to share it so others can benefit too 🙂

    Have a lovely day!
