I have the same thing – i see this banner and everything I try to figure out its location on the page is not working, everything I add in my page appears below this banner.
I inserted a slider at the top of the page and it appears below that image, everything I put on the page appears below the 2000×480 image placeholder.
I also have this edit link at the bottom left of the page, im not not able to get rid of this either.
First, find one or more articles you want to showcase in that slider. Then go to the edit section of that article, go to post options and click on the Feature on Homepage Slider checkbox, after that, on your bottom right you will see Featured Image (the smaller vertical menu on your right). Click on that and upload the image you want to use for the home page slider.
