Changing text colour for header and menu - Bones theme (2 posts)

    I have recently installed bones wordpress theme for my site (http://www.cdbrosnan.co.uk).

    The only issue I am having is that I wish to change the colour of the text in the header and menu (currently pink)

    Where in the editor would I find the code for this?

    I found <meta name="msapplication-TileColor" content="#f01d4f"> under header.php and changed the hex colour code as #f01d4f matched the colour that the text is under the header and menu. I changed this to a hex value that I want for the text colour, however this did not change the colour of the text in either the header or menu.

    I have removed the date and header from the pages by editing the relevant php files, but am just having trouble with this.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    First of all, you should not edit the theme files directly, but create a child theme. Otherwise, any updates to the theme, (because of feature enhancements or security patches, for example) would overwrite your modifications and you will lose them.

    Second, you can just use CSS to change things like text color, no need to muck around in the code. If you create a child theme, then you just override the existing CSS by adding a new rule to the end of your child theme's style.css file. Or if you don't create a child theme, you can add new rules via a CSS plugin.

    You can use a web debugging tool like Firebug or Chrome Developer Tools to see what CSS rules are in effect for the element(s) that you are trying to change.

    For example, the pink color from your site title comes from the rule for anchor tags:

    a, a:visited {
    color: #f01d4f;

    Using a web debugging tool, you'll also be able to see that the site title has an ID of logo. So if you want to change the color of the site title, you just add this rule:

    #logo a {
       color: #000000;

    This CSS rule will change the site title to black (#000000).
