Support » Themes and Templates » Changing template font/colour etc

  • Hi

I am totally new to wordpress. How do I change a text font or put my own header in to an existing template?

I’ve gone into the ‘themes’ page in my admin, but if I change anything on the page template it does not save my changes.

Any help appreciated or point me to a tutorial on how to use wordpress.

    Many thanks

  • I know, I feel the same way. Oi! I am no programmer, but I have managed to change layouts on blogger, then I was on typepad, and now I’m a Word Press user.

I’ve also gotta figure out how to transfer my posts to Word Press. Easier said than done, but it’s worth it. At least Word Press is free, and the interface is really nice.

@cbowes, if you want to edit your template files, they have to be writeable by the server. You can CHMOD those files (e.g. to 666) via your FTP client.
But first I’d copy on of the template folders and rename it, then starting to experiment with it. I’d also suggest to check out the Blog Design and Layout section in the Codex

If you are using the Classic theme, this still works:

If you are using the Default theme, there is a flickr support thing for Kubrick

You may want to look at other Themes though – there are many and the list grows daily:

Study the CSS file – a good author wil have commented that file or provided a readme with some basic outline info.

If you post back about specific issues, give us a link and we’ll be able to get you the solution that much quicker.

    And welcome to WP 🙂

I don’t know who you are, but this information is helping me tremendously. Will get back when I come up with a cooler layout, lol.

Ok, now I feel like a moron, thanks Podz!
