# Changing permanlink

 * When I set up my site several years ago, I had some problem (can’t remember what)
   with setting the permalink as
    [http://www.internetevangelismday.com/blog/sample-post/](http://www.internetevangelismday.com/blog/sample-post/)
   and ended up with the less satisfactory (from SEO viewpoint) of [http://www.internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/123](http://www.internetevangelismday.com/blog/archives/123)
 * If I make the switch now, presumably this will affect every post made?
 * Is the following plugin
    [http://wordpress.org/plugins/change-permalink-helper/](http://wordpress.org/plugins/change-permalink-helper/)
   the best solution for forwarding old to new?

 * It looks like you are running version 3.5.2 so unless you are doing something
   extra then you should not need a plugin. Just change the permalinks and the built
   in canonical redirection feature should redirect the old URLs to the new.
 * If that does not happen then change it back and then there may be other things
   that you can try such as that plugin.

   will still be there?

 * It should be fine but can you share your current permalink settings just in case?

 * I think it will say `/archives/%post_id%` but I just want to be sure. 😉
