Changing Permalinks without affecting SEO?

  • Hi,

I have a wordpress blog that runs an ecommerce website.
I have been doing some SEO for it but have just recently noticed that my permalinks are still on the default p=123.

I will be changing this to a “post name” for regular posts and “shop base” or “shop base with category” for my products.

I just want to know if changing this will be affecting my SEO or will it be re-directing old links automatically to the new format.

    Thanks!

  • Ugly links should automatically redirect to the new permalinks. Search engines will see a 301 response code indicating that the relevant posts/pages have moved permanently.

    Hi Cyril,

Lol, “ugly” links… the term made me laugh.
Thanks! I feel a lot better now I will have pretty links from now on 🙂
