Support » How-To and Troubleshooting » Changing Permalinks Structure Caused Category Problem

Help! I changed the permalinks on my blog from the default (ugly) to a year/postname structure. Now when you click on the categories it takes you to a 404 error page.
I have read the page on wordpress site about permalinks several times. I have changed the htaccess file as appropriate. The issue with the categories is still there. Please advise.
Just bumping to see if anyone can help me with this.
That’s not really all you did is it?
you also either set your category base to ./ or installed a plugin that removes the category base, right?
that’s what’s causing the problem.
Category base manipulation is fickle at best, and requires certain conditions to be met – which it seems as though you’re not meeting.
I just checked in my permalinks setting and there is nothing listed in the category base. What should I put in there to make the categories work again?
you must have a plugin that’s eating it, in some way. usually when it’s blank, it will appear as /category/.
put /category/ in there, or /topic/ or something, but if a plugin is eating it, then it may eat whatever you put in there as well.
