I am trying to change my permalink settings before I get my new site established. I would like to use the /%postname%/ setting. However, when I change the setting messes up my whole site, giving me an error when I try to access the site at all. I found that after changing the permalinks it was creating a web.config file in the root directory. If I delete that file it brings my site back up and the links seem to be in the /%postname%/ format, but the links do not work, when I try to go to a post I get this message:

    Not Found

Apologies, but we were unable to find what you were looking for. Perhaps searching will help.

If I change things back to the default permalink setting everything works again, but I would really like to use the postname permalinks. Can anybody please help me figure this out?

Note: At one point after changing the settings I received a message about changing the “write” permission on web.config. However I cannot do that I believe because I am using a windows server instead of Linux.

I have exhausted every angle on this and cannot find a solution so any light or help would be very much appreciated!

    Thank you.

I have still had no luck fixing this, I have tried everything I can think of or find to try.

NOTE: I changed my permalinks with no problem at all on my other domain. Which is my primary domain. This domain, for some reason will not do it. What is the difference?
