Changing Permalink Structure: Hurting Archived SEO? (5 posts)

    Hello,
I'd like to change my permalink structure to exclude the YYYY/MM/DD directories in the URL. Afterward, the URL will only show the domain and the post title.

If I do so, will the existing pages that are already indexed by google and have strong placement be removed? Will google keep those where they are in their index?

If not, do you have any suggestions on how I can fix this? Perhaps a redirect?

What format were you using up to this point?

If Default, those default style URLs will always work, no redirect necessary.

use this by going to the Options > PermaLinks inside the WordPress administration,

    /index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/

    Hi HandySolo, adeelshahid.

Presently my permalinks are set to http://www.blog.com/2007/10/08/sample-post/

I'd like to change them to:
    http://www.blog.com/sample-post/

    Or possibly:
    http://www.blog.com/category/sample-post/

If I change them, will these posts still be indexed by google, and will the legacy URLs redirect to the new format? HandySolo, you seem to suggest that this is true. Is this correct?

No, I'm sorry, that's not what I suggested.

What I suggested applies if you're currently using Default permalinks. You're not.
