 * Hello everybody. In my site I have this permalink structure
 * /%postname%/
 * I think that for SEO purposes it’s better to have a structure like this one
 * /%category%/%postname%/
 * but if I change the structure I’ll get a bunch of 404 errors so I’m searching
   for some htaccess rules, ora a plugin, that takes care of this automatically
   since I have a lot of posts and I can’t redirect them manually.
 * Site is _[ redundant link removed ]_ and if you’ll check you’ll see that now
   the category is not present.
 * Many thanks to who’s willing to help me 🙂
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fchanging-permalink-9%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)
   to see the link]_

 * What evidence do you have that says putting the category slug with the post slug
   would be better?
    And what dose that sort of permalink do when there are subcategories?
   Or the post is in more than one category?
 * There are lots of plugins that will do redirection: [https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/redirect/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/redirect/)

 * I don’t have any concrete evidence that it’s better, just thinking that /category/
   posttitle is better than posttitle and more readable.
 * There are categories and, in some cases, 3 subcategories but most categories.
 * Have you any evidence that one permalink is better than the other, at least on
   the SEO side.

 * I have no evidence of any SEO techniques. This is not the right place to discuss
   SEO.
    But I do know that having existing links and doing a lot of struggle to
   change them probably is not worth any slight SEO advantage. And I know that having
   a mess of redirections can be a real headache when moving a site. It’s also disconcerting
   for the user to click one thing and end up somewhere else.
