    What do you mean by clear? You can remove the grey page background by going to the Background admin page and click on Remove Background Image. You’ll also have to remove the page shadow:

    #page {
       -moz-box-shadow: none;
       -webkit-box-shadow: none;
       box-shadow: none;
       }

    I removed the old background and added a new one but under the admin section for theme options there is a tab for colors. In that tab is header text color, background color, page background and link color. The background color has a option for clear. The page color background does not have that option, it makes me pick a color and no matter what background I add, the grey page background remains.

    “Clear” does not mean transparent. It just means clear the input field. In order for your background color to appear, you must remove the background image. First go to the Background Image panel and click on the image. An option to remove it will appear. Or you can go to the Appearance => Background admin page and do it all there.
