  • How do I make edits just for mobile devices?
My website looks a little funky on my phone and I’ve been wanting to change it up just for that.
I’m using the classic editor BTW. Thanks

  • Actually I think your site looks okay on my phone using chrome. The main issue is site performance. It takes quite awhile for the pages to download. Are your image sizes optimized? Are you using a CDN? Also I would consider adding an SSL certificate. Google likes SSL for SEO!

Yes it looks “okay”, but there are still things I want to change.

How do I get pics to be optimized? I’m sure some of the pics are high resolution.

I’m not sure what a CDN is. How do I add a SSL certificate?

Sorry for all the questions, but this is my first ever website (created all on my own).

    Still looking for an answer.

Mobile specific changes are best done with CSS. I can’t give you any specifics without knowing exactly what you want to accomplish.

As for what a CDN is, please google it. Cloudflare is popular and the Jetpack plugin has one built-in. Jetpack also has some nifty features you may want to consider.

An SSL certificate can probably be purchased from your web host. Ask them first. I buy mine from ssls.com.

    Not sure what CSS is.

    In terms of specifics:

    1) I want to change the main background picture on the home page.
    2) On the Bio page, a lot of the pictures get cut off.
    3) On the main page, the menu bar covers the header logo.
    4) The copyright info at the footer is bunched up. I want it to be spread out, like it is when I view the page on a desktop. It seems like it was when I first created the site, but changed over time somehow.

Just read up on SSL certificates and I don’t need one since there is no payment information being entered on my site.

I’m bowing out of this conversation. CSS is the styling foundation for websites. Please do some homework.

Is there anyone else that can please help me with this?

I finally optimized the images on my website so hopefully the pictures load better.
Thanks for pointing that out. I had no idea on my end.
Can anyone test this to make sure it’s okay?

Performance is okay on my Android phone. I still recommend a CDN or the jetpack plugin to further optimize image download time.

Also the PayPal buy now button looks really tacky on the client payment page. I’m sure you can find something more professional. This is an attorney website after all!

Finally, I still recommend an SSL certificate. There inexpensive and convey a sense of confidence to site visitors. Again it’s all about making a good impression to site visitors. Look at other attorney websites, and other professional sites. You don’t have to be selling anything to have an SSL certificate. I put them on all my sites.

I followed your suggestions just now and purchased the Jetpack plugin and SSL certificate. As far as the PayPal button, I’m not sure how else to offer that.
Perhaps I should just remove it as it is rarely utilized.

Let me know your thoughts now. Thanks

You’re on the right path! Now that you have the SSL certificate installed you have to change the site URL in your general settings page to https://yourdomain.com. Change both settings and save them. WordPress will detect the URL change and automatically log you off. Make sure you have your admin password so you can log back in. You will also have to check your links and ensure they are set to https. For example I believe the buttons on your home page are all hardcoded to http. If you don’t change them you will be defeating the purpose of having the certificate.

As far as PayPal goes, I see no issue with PayPal as a payment method. My complaint was that the button reads Buy Now instead of something like Pay Now. I suspect that the attorney’s clients are paying for legal services not buying a commodity. It’s just a matter of have the correct verbiage on the button. I’m sure you can find another PayPal button.

If you have Jetpack questions it would be best to ask them in the Jetpack forum. However I suggest that you set the options for optimizing image displays. That will help with load time on mobile devices.

I think I have everything set up, except for two things:

    1) I don’t see the lock icon next to my URL in the bar, like I do on other pages.

    2) On my home page, for some reason the tagline “A Civil Litigation Law Firm” got moved over to the right. It was previously directly under my company logo.

PayPal actually does not directly offer a “Pay now” button. I am looking around for a workaround.

    1. Yeah, I just checked your site and your images are still loading with HTTP.

    2. Fix your image links first. That may solve the problem.

Regarding your paypal button… just found something you could use. go to https://developer.paypal.com/ and scroll down a bit until you find Smart Payments Button code. That would be perfect IMO for your site.
