Changing layout for Pages

  • I’ve installed the current version of WP and setup the Back to Black 2 theme for it. So far so good, but (as most people) I want to do something a bit different with the layout.

The sidebar should link to WP Pages (which by using the Include Page plugin I now have) but I want a slightly different layout. I’ve read about using templates for pages, but I’m not sure they will do what I want.

If you look at http://www.tymargames.co.uk and then click on Games you’ll see the layout I’m after. I want the page split into two columns with an image on the left and some descriptive text on the right. The image should then link to another WP Page about that game.

The problem is that WP doesn’t seem to allow very complex formatting in Pages so I don’t know how I can achieve the look that I want.

I guess I’m using WP as a CMS rather than a blogging tool, and I’m hoping it is possible to achieve the look I want with the theme that I’m using.

Any hints and tips would be much appreciated.

  • You can set up (=create) as many Page templates as you want. WP does allow to have even complex Page formatting – it all depends on the html you put into your Page template. Look for Pages in the Codex and the links from there to Page templates.

I couldn’t figure it out, so I guess I cheated and chucked a table in. As long it works I guess…
