[resolved] changing domain versus moving and changing domain (3 posts)

Hello. I'm a little confused on switching domains for WordPress. What I want to do is change the domain name for a WordPress install but there would be no migrating/moving of files on the same server or to a different server. I've seen a few posts reference these links for the issue:

However, where I'm confused is if the above links assume that (a) the files/database are being migrated to a new folder or host and (b) the domain name is being changed.

I'm simply changing the domain name without migrating anything. For this, is all that is required changing the "WordPress Address" and "Site Address" under "General Settings"? i.e.,

    Old domain name:
    Wordpress Address: http://example1.com
    Site Address: http://example1.com

    New domain name:
    Wordpress Address: http://example2.com
    Site Address: http://example2.com

    Is that is?

    Any help would be useful.

In its default installation WordPress does a good job of respecting what's in the "Site Address" setting you referenced throughout, so if you want to switch to using a new domain and everything else is all ready in terms of DNS, your host's web server config, etc., updating that setting in the admin area should be it.

Now, if you've customized other parts of your installation or created content where you've referenced the full old domain example1.com, you may need to go in and make other changes.

    I hope that clarifies things.
