I own a ABC.NET domain on which I’ve been running a WP site for few years now.

I have recently purchased a DEF.NET domain which I’d like to make a new address for this site without having to migrate all data and install WP again.

How do I correctly configure WP to use the new URL and set up the 301 redirection to keep the SEO ranks and my site in the search results but under the new URL?

You’ll first need to add the new domain to your hosting account (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics), then follow this guide: https://wordpress.org/support/article/moving-wordpress/#moving-directories-on-your-existing-server

Thank you, James. The new domain is already on the server, my hosting provider uses the following directory structure:

    0:/domains/abc.net/public_html
    0:/domains/def.net/public_html
    0:/domains/ghi.net/public_html

And so on. I was hoping it would be possible to use .httpaccess in the new /def.net/public_html directory to redirect all traffic to the right folder but looks like I’ve got a bit more planning to do. 🙂

Yes, if you only redirect things and don’t move the installation, you’ll run into a lot of problems. 🙂
