Changing colors of theme noir

Hey all,

Is was wondering if anyone knows how to change the color of the theme noir
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/noir

Basically anything from the background color to the smaller things like the border of the columns.
I saw some colorcodes in the css files which i changed but nothing seemed to happen so i thought id ask here before trying some more things.
