 * I was recently using 3.1.1. I was having trouble because none of my changes were
   saving – I would update a page or the menu, and hit save, and it would say that
   it was successful, but then the update wouldn’t actually be saved. I decided
   to update to 3.3.1 to try to fix the problem. When I did this, I got stuck in
   a database update loop. I’ve looked into this and found that my database says
   my version is 17516, while my version.php file says that my database version
   is 19470. If I set them to the same thing, I can get back into the admin area,
   but still nothing saves. Can someone please help me? This is very frustrating.
 * Thx!

 * Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s
   folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using
   [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) or whatever file management application
   your host provides.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
 * – re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the wp-content folder – from
   a **fresh** download of WordPress.
 * – re-run the upgrade via wp-admin/upgrade.php

 * I tried this with no success. I’m back to my original situation. I have set both
   the version.php and the database option “db_version” to 19470. I can now get
   into the admin, but it won’t save anything. I tried the steps above, so I have
   a fresh install in place, but nothing works. Why would I not be able to save
   changes in the admin area?? Is this a permissions problem on my host??
 * Please help, thanks so much,
    Sharon

 * SOLVED THIS. Turns out my client (I’m a web designer/developer) had created a
   new database user – with ONLY select permissions – so the update was never running
   on the db, but the site was running fine – once I fixed the permissions, all
   is well.
